I learned the craft as a writer and editor at major publications: researching, reporting, fact-checking, creating article ideas, avoiding legal problems. This experience on the other side of the editor's desk becomes an edge for you as we enter the competitive world of ideas.
Publishing to make itself known, a company essentially is telling its story: who it is, what it knows and what it can do.
The value of such thought leadership goes beyond mere marketing. Committing thoughts to paper brings order and clarity to ideas and terminology. The resulting article or book aligns thinking within the organization. And the creative process produces insights on new business opportunities.
My role is to write, of course, but also to assist as needed in the formulation of ideas and research. I bring a fresh perspective from my many years of writing about business, management and technology. And, as an outside consultant, I help manage a project when several people are involved.

“I had the pleasure of watching Terry take consultant-ese and turning it into comprehensible, engaging English. Terry has a rare gift: Not only is he able to understand what the practitioner is saying, but he is also able to see how it must be said for the reader to "get it", and he is able further to draw the essence out of examples to the point that I often said, "How could I not have seen that in there?"
“Terry’s beautifully written, highly readable and extremely talkable piece is a classic – a brilliantly conceived and masterfully composed expression of company's personality.”
A company's thought leadership efforts should be based on a communications business plan that defines the audience, the intended result, the budget and the firm's strategic goals. Answers to these questions enlightens decisions on appropriate media, priorities and timing.
As editorial director and editor in chief at several consulting firms, I can suggest strategies that disseminate ideas most effectively and reinforce the brand in multiple channels.

"Terry effectively managed multiple communications channels, including a new thought leadership journal to which he brought his considerable experience and expertise in its creation and launch."
The storytelling tools companies use can be adapted to help individuals advance in their careers. As with companies, a person's creation of documents -- resumes, cover letters, emails -- can become a process of self-discovery and identification of his or her unique story.
Based on a individual's goals, I help with the creation of these materials, using them as tools to explore their options.
I also work one on one with executives to analyze their writing style and offer practical steps for improvement.

"Thank you so much for your work on my resume. The transformation is remarkable."
