I learned to tell stories as a national business and feature writer for The Associated Press, where my magazine-style stories about business leaders, economists, professors, politicians and experts in many fields appeared in newspapers around the world.
My education in the art of the story continued at The Reader’s Digest, where, as managing editor, I helped writers produce the dramas in real life that were among the magazine’s most popular features worldwide. I also delivered the firm’s own story as author of the editors’ column and as a speaker before internal and external audiences.
In subsequent years I managed the publishing arm of several consulting firms, coordinating this effort across multiple channels – from email newsletters to print journals -- to showcase their thought leadership. Since 1997 I have written and edited for such firms as IBM, McKinsey, Booz Allen and Gartner.
Along the way I have been Contributing Editor of Booz Allen's strategy+business journal, Deputy Editor of CIO Insight magazine, and a humor columnist for The Ridgefield Press.
I am co-author of Sustained Innovation: Converging Business & Technology to Achieve Enduring Performance and was a contributor to and the editor of Winning the 3-Legged Race : When Business and Technology Run Together
. I was chief editor of Six Billion Minds: Managing Outsourcing in the Global Knowledge Economy
.
I blog about writing at The Writer Blog and about everything else at The Gumbo Blog.
